How to Recover your Funds

Step 1

Contact your Bank

You can use email, telephone, post, in branch or online chat to contact your bank to do this.

We recommend sending a letter via recorded delivery so you know its been received. If you need specific banks complaints contact details, let us know and we can send them over.

Explain to them in detail what happened in your case. Be specific with dates and amounts where possible.

Step 2

Wait for a Response

All banks have 8 weeks to respond to you. This letter will tell you if you are successful or not in claiming back money lost.

If you are successful, the bank will refund you the money you lost.

Don't worry if you are unsuccessful, you can escalate it further to a body called The Financial Ombudsman Service.

You must do this within 6 months of receiving the letter from the bank.

Step 3

Escalate to the Ombudsman

If necessary, the easiest way to contact the Financial Ombudsman Service is through their Online Claim Form, or you can email, post or call them.

Make sure to give them copies of, or detail out, the information you have sent and received from the bank.

The Financial Ombudsman Service can take a long time to get through claims due to many financial claims they look into, so please be patient with this stage of the process.

Similar to the banks, they will come back with a successful or unsuccessful letter with regards to your claim.

(1) the maximum percentage rate of charge, or

(2) the maximum total charge,
